Geer: Judicial reforms a process that must move forward, significant steps for further progress needed

Skopje, 22 March 2023 (MIA) - Reforms in judiciary that will ensure the rule of law is an ongoing process that must move forward, significant steps are needed for further progress, EU Ambassador David Geer said Wednesday after signing the EU Grant Agreement with EIB for a wastewater treatment plant in Skopje.

Geer stressed that the EU will continue to provide financial and technical assistance in the process. The EU Ambassador pointed out it must be ensured that there will be a judiciary that will have the public's trust and that will be independent, professional and objective.

"As you know, every year the European Commission publishes a report on the country that monitors progress across the border in the area of EU-related reforms and naturally this looks in depth at the issue of judiciary and rule of law reforms as it is an essential element in the accession process. That is why we follow the development at every stage from the very opening of the negotiations until the accession of the country," said Geer.

According to him, progress is noted in certain areas and institutions.
