Janevska pledges to restore dignity and respect of teachers

Skopje, 1 July 2024 (MIA) – In her video address at the opening of the Independent Union of Education, Science and Culture (SONK) Sports Games in Struga on Monday, Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska spoke about her major plans for improving the quality of the educational process and for restoring the dignity and respect of teachers.

“I want you to know that you will be my greatest support and aid during the next period. We have major plans aimed at improving the quality of the educational process, and one of our main objectives will be to restore your dignity, respect, and better your status in society,” Janevska noted in her video message to the teachers.

She stated that primary education is her top priority and that no changes will be made without an agreed position with the teachers.

“Primary education is a priority for me as a minister and for the Government. But no change will occur without you. You are the crucial link in the educational process, and it is clear that if we are not on the same page, if we do not have a coordinated stance, there will be no success. That is why I have announced and reiterate - we will not make any decisions without your agreement, by force, or in secret. That time has passed,” Janevska said.

She announced a new collective agreement for primary and secondary education will be introduced during her term in office.

“If I had to single out one thing, it would certainly be the signing of a new collective agreement for primary and secondary education, which will take place during this Government's term. Just a few days ago, we held our first meeting and began initial discussions with SONK’s leadership, and our shared commitment is to create more opportunities for you,” Janevska noted.
