First-ever liver transplant from a deceased donor at Skopje clinic
Skopje, 25 November 2022 (MIA) – The first-ever liver transplant from a deceased donor was performed at the Skopje-based Clinic for Digestive Surgery on Friday. “A 60-year-old patient with a chronic liver disease received a healthy organ from a patient in brain death, whose family agreed to donate the organs. Kidney transplant surgeries are also being performed as we speak,” the Ministry of Health wrote in a Facebook post. Health Minister Bekim Sali has thanked the family of the donor for the decision to save three lives. “They have shown yet again that life can be gifted. A big thank you to all the teams involved in the transplants over the past 24 hours. The clinic has written a new page in the field of digestive surgery in the country,” said Minister Sali.
