Frankfurt, 4 September 2023 (MIA) - German battery manufacturer and innovation leader for high-tech battery systems BMZ is set to invest EUR 64.9 million in technological-industrial development zone Skopje 2 and create 775 new jobs.

BMZ GmbH CEO and founder Sven Bauer and Free Zones Authority (FEZ) Director Jovan Despotovski signed the investment agreement on Monday in Frankfurt, in the attendance of Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Fatmyr Bytyqi and BMZ Macedonia General Manager Jelica Ivanovska.

Deputy PM Bytyqi said that stable and predictable business environment instills trust and that the series of competitive support measures for new investments produce concrete results. After only a few months of discussions with state representatives, BMZ made the decision to realize the investment and build a factory in the technological-industrial development zone Skopje 2.

"We are pleased that the investment will be realized with a highly technological advanced company that projects its growth and development on the basis of research and development and advanced knowledge, which means that it will bring innovative technologies, management practices and expertise to our economy, which can then be passed down to domestic companies in North Macedonia," Bytyqi said.

The new BZM factory in Skopje will use its new facility to manufacture battery products.

The complete investment will be realized over the course of ten years, while construction of the factory is set to start at the end of 2023 and finish within 24 months.

Destopovski and Bytyqi announced that for the needs of the investment project, the manufacturing will take place at the newest factory in the Skopje 2 zone, organized in three modules for production and administration, with total surface area of 12,000 square meters, and a logistics center.

BMZ Group is a leader in the entire product life cycle of lithium-ion battery systems used across industries. The group is headquartered in Karlstein, Frankfurt am Main region in Germany and has further production facilities in China, Poland and the USA as well as branches in Japan, UK and France. ssh/ik/
