ESM to purchase 16.8 gigawatt-hours of electricity for period Nov. 7-13
Skopje, 3 November 2022 (MIA) - The Power Plants of North Macedonia company (ESM) is set to purchase AD ESM will purchase 16.8 gigawatt-hours of electricity for the period from November 7 to 13, for which the procedure has been completed Thursday. The average price reached at today's auction is €215 per megawatt-hour including all margins, which means that €3.615 million will be allocated for that purpose, head of ESM, Vasko Kovachevski said.
“According to the electricity distribution plan to EVN Home for November, the purchase of 72,000 megawatt-hours (72 gigawatt-hours) was planned, and for the first half of November, an amount of 36,000 megawatt hours was projected. We managed to achieve a significantly lower purchase and only 16,800 megawatt-hours were purchased,” Kovachevski said.
If the entire planned quantity was procured for the first half of November, he noted, it would cost an additional €4.2 million. For the period from November 15 to 30, he pointed out, that it will first be necessary to see if the consumption will be satisfied with its own production and then to evaluate if there will be a need for the purchase of an additional amount of electricity, which according to the production plan should amount to 36.6 gigawatt-hours.
“It was planned to procure 49,600 megawatt-hours for October, but with the increased production of our facilities and the reduced consumption due to the favourable weather conditions and due to energy savings made by citizens and institutions, we had zero procurement of energy and thus saved €10.5 million,” Kovachevski added.
According to the plan in December, he said, the procurement of new 49,600 megawatt-hours of electricity is foreseen, but whether and how much will be procured will depend on ESM production, weather conditions and electricity demand.
In the first 10 months of this year, he pointed out that ESM 100-percent implements the production plan and fully respects the electricity supply to all their contractual bodies.
