Energy tsunami threatens Macedonian economy, warns SSK head
Skopje, 26 August 2022 (MIA) - The price of electricity must be limited and the companies should pay up to a certain point, and the state, with its own budget, should help the economy for everything above that point, said Trajan Angeloski, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Macedonia (SSK).
He presented the Chamber's proposals to help the economy due to the energy crisis and he warns that an economic shutdown and bankruptcy are possible due to the prices of electricity being too high.
"Right now, an energy tsunami threatens the Macedonian economy. The energy market is out of control, there is no service or product that can take energy source prices from EUR 600 to 700 per MW/h," Angeloski said.
The Chamber believes that ELEM must secure additional domestically sourced energy for the free market and to apply positive pressure to reduce the enormous prices, and to avoid discriminating against companies on the free market vs those on the regulated market.
"ELEM must increase production, right now we're not convinced it's reached the max, and start selling electricity on the market which will positively affect price reductions," Angelovski said.
Faster procedures for setting up photovoltaics, i.e., EVN to issue energy permits from 7-10 days, and for the remaining paperwork to be delivered within 120 days. The Chamber believes that this will be an ongoing crisis and they ask the state to help, even if it requires going into debt, because "the business will pay it back". dk/ba/
