Skopje, 13 July 2022 (MIA) - President von der Leyen will meet with North Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski in Skopje tomorrow, the European Commission (EC) posted Wednesday on Twitter, announcing the visit of President Ursula von der Leyen to Skopje, who should address the lawmakers in the Parliament tomorrow, but in a short time corrected the post and wrote that the EC President von der Leyen is to meet with the President of North Macedonia.
“President Von der Leyen will be tomorrow in Skopje to meet the North Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski and Prime Minister Dimitar Kovačevski. The President will address the North Macedonian Parliament in a solemn session at 13:00 CET,” the European Commission posted in the initial tweet, and the photo stated "President Ursula von der Leyen in the Macedonian Parliament."
Shortly after the tweet was published, the tweet was deleted and a new one was published, which does not contain the adjective “North Macedonian.”
“President von der Leyen will be tomorrow in Skopje to meet the President of North Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski and Prime Minister Dimitar Kovačevski. The President will address the Parliament of North Macedonia in a solemn session at 13:00 CET,” reads the corrected tweet.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that as always, they reacted as soon as they noticed that an inappropriate adjective had been used.
“We were assured that an unintentional mistake was made, after which the post was immediately removed,” Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
