Washington, 3 February 2024 (MIA) - Deputy PM for Good Governance Policies Slavica Grkovska says she expects the United States blacklist to continue to expand.
"I hope the list will be supplemented. I see this as added help from our international partners in the form of incentive for national institutions to do their job," Deputy PM Grkovska told Voice of America in Macedonian language.
She adds it is primarily a domestic task for national institutions and the judiciary to raise these cases and ensure there is an outcome, in order for those suspected of high-profile corruption to be held accountable, and "this requires courageous people".
"Due to the lack of efficiency and results in the judiciary, there is a general opinion in the public that we still cannot be satisfied from the results in the fight against corruption and organized crime. This is mainly addressed to the judiciary. My message to all candidates at the Academy for Judges and Prosecutors is that now is the time for them to see if they are brave enough and whether they are ready to resist pressures and challenges that go with the profession, so they can do their job with honesty, integrity and professionalism, regardless of the persons involved. They have to become aware that the issue of countering corruption has become a security issue that undermines the foundations of the country and its institutions, it undermines the citizens' trust in those institutions, and that they hold the country's future in their hands, whether we make progress or go backwards," says Grkovska.
