Skopje, 28 April 2023 (MIA) - Open Balkan is an initiative that is already demonstrating the economic benefits for participating countries. Numbers show an increase in trade exchange, facilitated border procedures, and operating green lanes, Deputy Finance Minister Filip Nikoloski told the Delphi Economic Forum in Greece.
"Open Balkan is not a political initiative but an economic one that is based on the four fundamental EU freedoms. Nevertheless, it is not a replacement for the EU but an incentive for faster integration of the region in the European Union. Therefore, starting from the common goal we aspire to - full-fledged EU membership - we launched this initiative that accelerates reforms and further prepares countries for Union accession," said Deputy Minister Nikoloski.
He added that the increased trade exchange among countries has been visible, noting the North Macedonia's total exchange with Serbia and Albania since the onset of 2023 has risen by over 32.9 and 32.8 percent respectively, the Ministry of Finance said in a press release.
Nikoloski said Open Balkan is an opportunity for a better future, while realization of its projects result in a better life for citizens and improved institutions.
The April 26-29 Delphi Economic Forum is focused on the disrupted geopolitics, climate and environment, sustainable economy and finance, social inclusiveness and technological advancement, reads the press release.
