CA, PRO sign work plan with US Treasury Department for strengthening public finance management capacities

Skopje, 18 July 2023 (MIA) - The United States, as one of North Macedonia's biggest strategic partners, supports the EU integration process, and in the next five years the two countries will be working on a joint project aimed at maintaining financial interests and stability of the financial system through greater efficiency of institutional capacities in the collection of revenues, improvement of services and suppressing corruption, said the Customs Administration (CA) on Tuesday.

Customs Administration director Stefan Bogoev, Public Revenue Office (PRO) head Sanja Lukarevska, and Audit Manager at the US Treasury Department, Parvina Shamsieva-Cohen signed the Work Plan for the Project on Strengthening Capacities of the Public Revenue Office and Customs Administration 2023-2024.

The plan was signed in the presence of the Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi, who during the 2023 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, signed the defined working conditions according to which the two institutions should work in order to achieve the defined goals, the Customs Administration said in a press release.

Within the framework of the project, the two institutions will establish cooperation with the Office of Technical Assistance at the US Treasury Department, which will provide expertise for strengthening capacities, support for reforms and modernization efforts undertaken within the framework of the Customs Administration and the Public Revenue Office.
