Bochvarski: Continuing the largest road network investment cycle

Bochvarski: Continuing the largest road network investment cycle

Bitola, 23 March 2023 (MIA) – Through the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Public Enterprise for State Roads, the Government continues the historically largest investment cycle in the construction and modernization of the road network across the country, said Minister Blagoj Bochvarski at the Medzitlija Border Crossing, where the Bitola – Medzitlija road is under repair.

“We are investing over EUR 1 billion to build quality roads, develop the economy, secure fast and secure traffic for the citizens and connect the country through modern roads in the region, to show that we are focused on the European perspective,” he said.

Over EUR 3 billion have been invested in the Bitola – Medzitlija road to make it modern, safe and functional for the citizens of the region and the business sector. Keeping in mind that it connects us to Greece, its significance becomes even greater because it’s part of the European Corridor 10-D, said the Minister.

The Bitola – Medzitlija road is 12.5 km long, with variable width from 6-6.5 meters and 5 bridges. The EBDR has secured EUR 3,27 million for the full rehabilitation of this state road.

“We predict that we’ll be done by the end of July, and given that the construction season and the weather are on our side, we expect a quick and quality realization,” said PE for State Roads director, Ejup Rustemi.

In parallel to the rehabilitation of this highway, the biggest capital project for Pelagonija starts next month – the construction of the Bitola – Prilep highway section as part of the construction package of highway sections on Corridors 8 and 10-D. dk/nn/
