Besimi: Design of macroeconomic policies and support to economy – key to accelerated growth
Skopje, 20 September 2021 (MIA) – Design of macroeconomic policies, public finances, structural reforms and Government’s support to the economy amid the pandemic, green and digital transformation were in the focus of discussions of Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi with Michela Matuella, Acting Director for the Western Balkans at the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, and Steffen Hudolin, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation in Skopje on Monday.
“RN Macedonia is committed to attaining economic growth and recovery from the pandemic, with a focus on green, digital, smart, accelerated, inclusive and sustainable growth. The plan to finance accelerated growth aims to ensure its sustainability and financial stability by mobilizing capital from the private sector in addition to the Budget funds,” said Minister Besimi.
Discussions also tackled the Law on Budgets, reforms to advance fiscal decentralization and realization of IPA-funded projects.
Regarding the measures to manage the pandemic, Besimi said six sets of stimulus measures worth EUR 1,18 billion have been implemented.
“All current indicators (GDP growth, budget revenues, trade exchange etc) point to the economy’s recovery,” noted Besimi while adding that developments are closely monitored.
