Bekteshi: Price cap on certain food products throughout January
- The "Guaranteed Price" measure will most probably be extended for another month at least, namely by the end of January. Capped prices of certain basic food products will be applied until the Parliament adopts the Law on Unfair Trading Practices, which the Government approved last week, said Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi on Monday.
Skopje, 25 December 2023 (MIA) - The "Guaranteed Price" measure will most probably be extended for another month at least, namely by the end of January. Capped prices of certain basic food products will be applied until the Parliament adopts the Law on Unfair Trading Practices, which the Government approved last week, said Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi on Monday.
The "Guaranteed Price" measure is set to expire by the end of 2023 but Minister Bekteshi told TV24 that he will propose its extention by at least one more month.
"The ministry's trade sector is set to meet today, and according to the data we have seen, the measure will be extended by a month at least, since the Law on Unfair Trading Practices will not go into effect in January. We hope that the Parliament will pass the law in the course of January so it can go into effect as of 1 February 2024," says Bekteshi.
The new law, he adds, regulates relations among producers, distributors and sellers, leading to lower prices, thus making the "Guaranteed Price" measure unnecessary.
