Skopje, 2 April 2025 (MIA) - Canadian company "Magna Mechatronics" opened a new plant in the Technological Industrial Development Zone (TIDZ) in Shtip on Wednesday. The investment is valued at EUR 40 million and is expected ti create over 600 jobs by 2027. This is Magna's second plant in the country.
Speaking at Wednesday's opening event, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said the investment will be a strong accelerator of economic development and positive changes in the country.
"This investment is not just a capital project, but a real story of trust, partnership and shared vision. It covers 18,000 square meters, regarding which EUR 40 million will be invested, and 600 jobs will be created at the peak of the investment. New jobs are being created, industrial production is increasing, and the economy is being strengthened thanks to this plant. Our country is showing its readiness to be a home to successful and competitive companies that not only produce, but create values that will be felt across generations. We remain committed to creating a favourable business climate, transparent investment conditions and support for every entrepreneur who has the vision to invest here," said Mickoski.
Magna Mechatronics Shtip Director General, Goran Despinovski, said TIDZ Shtip was chosen as a location for investment based on the positive experiences from the plant in Struga, which has 1,000 employees and an investment of EUR 30 million, as well as the good infrastructure, good utility prices, qualified workforce and the support from the Government.
"We will wrap up this year with 350 employees, then 440 in 2026, and over 600 as of 2027," said Despinovski.
Magna Mechatronics Mirrors and Lighting President Jeff Hunt said focus will be on production of numerous mechatronic products that enable innovative access for customers and a better driving experience.
"As leaders in the mechatronics market, we are excited to continue developing these products, and we will do so on the successful foundation we have already laid here in North Macedonia," Hunt said.
According to Uwe Geissinger, President of Magna Europe, the investment recognizes the enormous potential of the region.
"With locations across the continent, we are better positioned to serve our customers, respond to market demands and drive innovation in the automotive industry. The new plant is a testament to our belief in the power of collaboration, the strength of local talent and the importance of sustainable development," said Geissinger.
