Skopje, 23 January 2024 (MIA) – The Government will continue to provide electricity subsidies until July 1 indirectly through the work of Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM), said Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi on Tuesday.
“As a Government we are indirectly providing the subsidies through the work of ESM by determining the price ESM offers to the universal supplier, and we will continue to do so until the middle of this year, when a new decision will have to be made over the price… This means that until July 1 the Government will continue to provide subsidies directly through ESM by setting the price at which it sells electricity,” said Bekteshi.
Asked if the Government is considering revising the amount of subsidies it provides since the introduction of the cheap electricity rate, Bekteshi said in certain months the subsidies will be increased, and reassured the citizens that there won’t be price hikes on consumers in the first and second block.
