Skopje, 23 November 2023 (MIA) - The electricity price will not go up after January 1, said Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi on Thursday, while noting that the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) would intervene if it is established that calculations are not done properly.
"The electricity price will not increase. According to the Law on Energy, the ERC is obliged to carry out an oversight and establish if calculations had been done properly. The latest law amendments resulted in the introduction of a universal supplier, which term is expiring and we have started the procedure of selecting a new one. We will have a new universal supplier at the onset of 2024 and we hope to see lower margins. The ERC is entitled to intervene in the price if it establishes that the calculations are not done properly," Minister Bekteshi told reporters.
He added that the electricity price will not increase, both in general and by tariff blocs.
"The ERC and competent institutions is currently conducting the analyses regarding the blocs, since we want to protect the vulnerable groups," said Bekteshi.
