Madrid, 2 October 2024 (dpa/MIA) - Atlético Madrid have permanently banned a member from the club for throwing objects at Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in last weekend's city derby, the club announced on Tuesday.
Atlético are also working with the police to identify and exclude other troublemakers, according to the statement on their website. The radio station Cadena Cope reported that around 60 fans were involved.
During the heated match on Sunday, ex-Atlético keeper Courtois was pelted with bottles, lighters and other objects by home fans. About halfway through the second half, the 1-1 draw had to be interrupted for around 20 minutes.
Atlético also intend to rewrite their stadium regulations so that wearing items or clothing inside the stadium that prevent a person's face from being recognized are not permitted.
The club are firmly committed to eradicating all forms of violence, the statement added.
