Aggeler: Making the right decision is most important, voters should know VMRO-DPMNE's Euro-integration plan

Skopje, 1 February 2024 (MIA) - United States Ambassador Angela Aggeler says making the right decision to move the country forward on the EU path is most important for the upcoming elections.

Ambassador Aggeler told TV24 the opposition should share its plan on the country's Euro-integration with the citizens, saying she would love to see it if the VMRO-DPMNE leader were to present it.

"However, I think it is far more important for voters and the people of this country to see and hear about this plan, and listen to the details of every plan that would solve the current problems with other countries. I truly hope that voters in the country want to clearly understand from all candidates about their plans for the future and how they will implement them," notes Aggeler.

On the caretaker government, the U.S. Ambassador says it was disappointing to see VMRO-DPMNE not vote for it, despite nominating their people for the designated posts.

"I expect every government to work for the benefit of its people. And yes, it was disappointing that VMRO-DPMNE did not vote for the government but nominated their ministers and deputy ministers. I hope the caretaker government will continue to work in the best interest of this country," says Aggeler.

According to her, the US-North Macedonia partnership will continue even if the constitutional changes are not adopted, although they would be disappointed.

"Our partnership is a strategic one and does not depend on this. Will we be disappointed? Absolutely. Nevertheless, the partnership we have with North Macedonia is something that has been there since the country's independence and it will continue. You are a NATO ally and this does not change this strong bond. I promise you we have done everything in our power, here at the US Embassy, to help the country meet its European aspirations," underlines Ambassador Aggeler.
