Advisory body rejects request for registration of Tsar Ferdinand club in North Macedonia
Skopje, 31 October 2022 (MIA) - The government's advisory body for the use of names of historical figures has rejected a request for the registration in North Macedonia of a club named after Tsar Ferdinand I of Bulgaria.
The body adopted a negative opinion involving the establishment of a cultural club named after Tsar Ferdinand saying "he is not viewed as a positive figure in the Macedonian history."
"He was the ruler of Bulgaria in the 19th and 20th century pushing Bulgaria into three wars of devastating character for Macedonia. Thus, the population in Macedonia still has memories and as a result, no positive opinion can be issued," the body's chair Boban Petrovski told MIA.
The advisory body's opinion will be forwarded to the Justice Ministry, he added.
