Abazović expects Montenegro to join Open Balkan soon, says it’s time for region to choose progress
Skopje, 2 September 2022 (MIA) – The Western Balkans seeks a new progressive policy through the Open Balkan initiative. I expect Montenegro to join Open Balkan soon, Montenegro’s Prime Minister Dritan Abazović told the opening of the Open Balkan leaders’ summit in Belgrade.   The region is sending messages that it could not send in the past, he said adding that what others cannot agree on, the region can. He noted that the Open Balkan is a successful initiative and Montenegro wants to be among the initiatives that are progressive and successful – that lead to reconciliation and progress.   “We’ve tried everything throughout history – we've tried with walls, we’ve tried with wars, we tried with crises, conflicts, accusations. What we haven’t yet tried is cooperation. It’s time to choose peace and choose progress,” said Abazović.   According to him, it’s time to understand that greater flexibility of borders doesn’t mean changing the borders, but greater opportunity for reconciliation, for business and progress, for unification, mobility, and everything that should mean infusing a new European spirit into the region.   “Citizens have had enough with the policies of the past, with nationalism, accusations. We need to offer something else, and this means greater cooperation. And at a point when we all meet all the standards, find ourselves together in the big European family,” Abazović stressed.
