Skopje, 10 June 2022 (MIA) — Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky in a letter to President Stevo Pendarovski has thanked him for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and its European integration, as expressed in a letter by Pendarovski in May 2022. In his letter, President Zelensky expresses gratitude for the solidarity and the firm and uncompromising position expressed by Skopje in condemning the Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Ukrainian president also thanks North Macedonia for fully joining the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russia as an aggressor. “My heartfelt thanks to you personally, Mr. President, and to the people of North Macedonia for supporting Ukraine’s European integration,” Zelensky writes, highlighting how important it is that the President of North Macedonia, a country that is already an EU candidate, has shown support for granting EU candidate status to Ukraine. Zelensky also says he hopes North Macedonia will start accession negotiations with the EU as soon as possible. "It is time for the European Union to make important political decisions," Ukraine’s President writes, expressing hope that both friendly countries will one day join the common European family as full members of the EU. mr/
