Zaev, Janša, Várhelyi: No other option except European Western Balkans
Skopje, 1 September 2021 (MIA) — Prime Minister Zoran Zaev at the Bled Strategic Forum on Wednesday met with Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša and EU Enlargement Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi, agreeing that enough time remains for Bulgaria and North Macedonia by the end of the year to find a solution that will accelerate the European integration of the entire region. According to an official press release, they confirmed that EU enlargement is a priority of the Slovenian EU Presidency and that the Western Balkan countries should become members of the Union as soon as possible. “The obstacles that arose in this process can be removed, as shown by positive examples in the recent past,” the release cites the three leaders as saying. The meeting concluded with Prime Ministers Zaev and Janša and EU Commissioner Várhelyi agreeing there were no options other than European Western Balkans and that North Macedonia and Albania should start negotiations as soon as possible. mr/
