Zaev: I expect Arsovska to withdraw from mayoral race as she is Hungarian consul and Bulgarian national
Skopje, 27 October 2021 (MIA) – Danela Arsovska has committed to serving as honorary consul of Hungary to serve as bridge between North Macedonia and Hungary and to represent another country. Now, there’s proof that she has Bulgarian citizenship too. It is too much, SDSM leader Zoran Zaev said Wednesday after his party has claimed the opposition-backed independent candidate for Skopje mayor holds Bulgarian passport and ID.
Appearing in Morning Briefing TV show, Zaev said there’s nothing wrong with Arsovska being Bulgarian national adding it is unfair, politically and morally, that she is trying to manipulate the citizens.
“I expect the Skopje mayoral candidate, Danela Arsovska, to withdraw from the race if she loves Skopje and its citizens,” he stated.
Arsovska, who will face SDSM’s Petre Shilegov in Sunday’s local election runoff, on Wednesday when asked at a news conference dismissed allegations that she has Bulgarian citizenship, calling them ‘yet another step of humiliation and demonstration of weakness.’
“I’m aware and everyone else is aware that I cannot prove that the allegations made by SDSM in the past few days are groundless in such a short period of time, two days before the election campaign ends,” Arsovska said.
Zaev, as regards his expectations in the second round of the 2021 local elections, he said he expected SDSM and its coalition to win “due to the policies the party has been implementing and due to its capacity to form coalition with other parties,” adding VMRO-DPMNE has no such capacity.
