Xhaferi-Bečić: Political relations excellent, economic cooperation to intensify
Skopje, 26 November 2021 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi met on Friday with his Montenegrin counterpart Aleksa Bečić, who is paying a visit to North Macedonia to take part in the regional conference on improving the dialogue between Journalists’ Associations and Parliaments in the Western Balkans.
Xhaferi, Parliament said in a press release, briefed Bečić on the current situation in the country following recent local elections and the Prime Minister’s resignation, as well as on the process of electing a new government in order to restore order within institutions ahead of the adoption of the 2022 Budget.
He underlined excellent political relations at bilateral and multilateral level, noting need for intensifying economic cooperation, especially through the launch of the Skopje-Podgorica-Sarajevo flight.
Bečić thanked Xhaferi for inviting him to take part in the conference and expressed condolences over the tragic bus accident on the Struma highway, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
“He also discussed Montenegro’s new parliamentary TV service, set to increase transparency and ensure greater participation from the opposition. Bečić also expressed support for North Macedonia’s EU integration, noting that Montenegro is deep in the process of opening chapters and is offering to assist Macedonian institutions. The EU enlargement policy, he added, is of strategic interest both for the Western Balkan, as well as for the Union, stressing the importance of speeding up the process,” the press release read.
Interlocutors also expressed assurance over future constructive and intensive cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
