Skopje, 1 May 2023 (MIA) — May 1 should serve as a reminder that building an equal society of equal citizens begins with the most ordinary person, from the lowest positions to the highest, Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi said in his public message on International Workers' Day.

"Workers, workers' rights and duties, their work safety and protection, equal pay, and respect for each one of them must be a top priority for every social stakeholder," Xhaferi said. 

"Providing decent working conditions will motivate them to put in as much as they can, that will give them a sense of belonging and being cared for, and a sense that they are not alone in bearing the burden of the rising economic challenges."

Working conditions impact people's physical and mental health, the parliament speaker noted.

"May this be a good and just society, may it be caring and full of understanding for everyone. Only then will we achieve progress and success as a collective, as a country, and as an economy. Happy May 1, be alive, healthy and equal," Xhaferi said in his May Day message. mr/
