Xhaferi on Aliu's call to unblock MISA laws: I don't work under ultimatums

Skopje, 29 January 2024 (MIA) - I am not a person who works under ultimatums, said the caretaker Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi during today's taking over the duties from the outgoing PM Dimitar Kovachevski, responding to journalist questions regarding the recent statement by the Minister of Information Society and Administration (MISA), Azir Aliu, that he will resign if the set of MISA laws is not unblocked.

"Generally, I don't work that way; it's not in my nature to accept ultimatums. Everyone has the freedom to decide how they should act, and let the subjects from where they come and where they gained dominance think for themselves about the consequences, regardless of who they are or where they come from. That's the position. I won't speculate hypothetically about what will happen or what if it were to happen. I leave it to concrete circumstances for things to happen as they may and for solutions to be found to overcome the issues," Xhaferi said.

At a press conference last week, Azir Aliu urged the lawmakers to review, as he stated, all the dilemmas concerning the package of laws proposed by MISA. These laws were passed by the government more than a month ago but are currently stuck in the Parliament.

It involves laws related to public administration, digitization, and media, on which MISA has been working for an extended period. Aliu mentioned that these are key laws with essential significance for improving the lives of citizens.
He noted that they are linked to the three pillars – administration, digitization, and media – of the EU’s Digital Europe Programme, over which our country signed an agreement last summer.
