Xhaferi: Levica’s referendum question may create problem in further procedure
Skopje, 13 October 2022 (MIA) – The way in which the wording of the referendum question submitted by Levica’s MP, Dimitar Apasiev, was framed, may create a problem in the further procedure, said Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi.
“Regarding the content of the question, and this is just a note, it’s not my obligation to go into it, I’m noting that the way in which the wording of the question is framed, may cause a problem in the further procedure, in the sense of what is indicated not by me, but by the institutions in the country which establish that such matters are not a general legal act, so I’m just pointing to what’s indicated by other institutions,” Xhaferi said in response to a reporter’s question at Thursday’s joint press conference with President of the National Council of the Federal Parliament of Switzerland, Irène Kälin.
He added that the submitter of the referendum motion has two years of experience as a member of parliament and hopes that he is familiar with the provision of Article 135 of the Rules of Procedure, to which he is referring, because it is clear and precise on what basis the motion should be corrected and resubmitted.
“In any case, we will see in which direction the requirements will be fulfilled within the legally provided deadline,” said Xhaferi.
On Wednesday, Levica leader Dimitar Apasiev said Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi’s dismissal of their referendum motion was “him just buying time,” adding that they would file the motion papers again after they correct them as per his request and within the deadline he set.
