Xhaferi: Gov't is fully functioning, within competences

Skopje, 9 February 2024 (MIA) - Caretaker Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi, commenting on the proposed changes in the Government's composition, pointed out that the Government is fully functioning, within its competences.

"The Goverment is fully functioning. Activities and measures are taken towards resolving the status of Government members in accordance with the established procedure and the competences provided by the Constitution and by law," Xhaferi said in an interview with Deutsche Welle

In the interview, Xhaferi also noted that he cannot comment on statements of members of the Government made on behalf of parties and as members of parties, pointing out that his primary focus are the powers he has as the Prime Minister of the Government of North Macedonia, the Government said in a press release.

"I am the Prime Minister of the Government, and I am responsible for the Government. I see to it that I lead the Government in accordance with the laws, regulations and procedures and in terms of the functioning of the Government," said Xhaferi.

Asked to comment on the cooperation with the ministers from the opposition, PM Xhaferi said the relation is appropriate and collegial, adding that all members of the Government, regardless of which entity they come from, have the same rights and obligations and of course, he noted, they have equal treatment.

"Regardless of their position, i.e. that they have joined the Government as part of the opposition, as part of the Przhino agreement, they are members of the Government with full right and competence to implement what is the work of the Government," Xhaferi told Deutsche Welle
