Xhaferi – Stefanishyna: North Macedonia is Ukraine’s partner and important factor in European stability

Skopje, 16 February 2024 (MIA) – North Macedonia is a partner of Ukraine and an important factor in European stability, said caretaker Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi at a meeting in Munich with the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olha Stefanishyna.

According to a government press release, at the meeting Xhaferi and Stefanishyna jointly assessed that the question of Ukraine’s security is a security challenge for all of Europe and the international democratic community.

Consequently, according to the press release, expectations were voiced that the European and international democratic public will stand together, side by side, as a key prerequisite for the defense of global peace.

“The Republic of North Macedonia immediately and unequivocally condemned the aggression of the Russian Federation on Ukraine, voicing support for Ukraine's territorial integrity. We also fully aligned ourselves with the European Union’s foreign and security policy. As a responsible NATO member, we are also providing Ukraine with the necessary assistance,” stressed Xhaferi.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the decision of the Council of the European Union to open accession talks with Ukraine, and spoke about the opportunity of sharing experiences regarding the Euro-integration process and necessary reforms.

Xhaferi noted that as a NATO member, North Macedonia remains committed to NATO’s open-door policy and supports Ukraine’s application for membership.

“Ukraine was also a top priority and a key security issue during North Macedonia’s OSCE Chairpersonship. North Macedonia worked and is still working to secure meaningful support for Ukraine and its people,” said PM Xhaferi.
