Xhaferi – Sarrazin: German support for next step in European integration reaffirmed

Skopje, 18 February 2024 (MIA) – The caretaker Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi met Germany's special envoy for the Western Balkans Manuel Sarrazin. Sarrazin reaffirmed Germany's unwavering support for the forthcoming step in European integration, emphasizing its significance for the citizens of North Macedonia in securing EU membership through a continuous process.
“Republic of North Macedonia is at an exceptionally important moment in its democratic development, as it must conduct another fair and democratic election, but also advance its European integration efforts. In this direction, Prime Minister Xhaferi's position and the new government's commitment to organizing and conducting elections according to European standards have been welcomed. It is emphasized that this is expected to be observed and followed by all political entities participating in the electoral process,” the government said in a press release.
In regard to the European integrations, it has been emphasized that the decision in the Parliament, by which the sole condition of the Negotiating Framework would be fulfilled, and North Macedonia would enter the negotiating process, is of importance for the stability of the entire Western Balkans.
Xhaferi thanked Germany, the largest EU member state, and particularly the personal and active involvement of the high-ranking German representative Sarrazin, for ongoing support of North Macedonia's prospects. He also acknowledged Germany's leading and responsible role in the European future of the Western Balkans, reads the press release.
