Working group to propose solutions for minimum pension, other measures in support of pensioners

Skopje, 15 August 2023 (MIA) – The establishment of a working group set to propose sustainable solutions in determining the minimum pension, and other measures in support of pensioners, was the result of Tuesday’s meeting between the Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Jovanka Trenchevska, and representatives of the Union of Pensioners' Associations, following Monday’s protest during which the pensioners demanded higher pensions and an increase of the minimum pension.

In a press release the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy said at the meeting, Trenchevska met with the head of Union, Stanka Trajkova, and the presidents of pensioners’ associations from Prilep, Shtip and Ohrid.

The working group to be formed will include representatives from the Ministry, the Government, the Union of Pensioners’ Associations and the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund.

“The working group is set to work on sustainable solutions, which will not destabilize the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund and which, above all, will respect the needs of the pensioners,” said the Ministry.

Trenchevska pointed out that meetings with pensioners throughout the country will intensify in the coming period, as an opportunity to hear their proposals which will serve as the basis for the creation of solutions.

“At the end of the meeting, Trenchevska said that the Ministry will promise the realization of only those solutions which can realistically be implemented, because, according to her, the promises made to the citizens must always be fully realized,” said the Ministry.
