Skopje, 21 September 2025 (MIA) - Artificial intelligence, 5G and optical networks, digital skills, and the access of regional companies to the European single digital market will be among the key topics at this year’s Western Balkans Digital Summit, to be held on October 1–2 in Skopje. According to Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski, the Digital Transformation Summit will feature two stages, main and tech, focusing on three main priorities: digital wallet – secure and trusted access to public and private services; interoperability – linking systems and registries for cross-border electronic services; and cybersecurity – safeguarding personal data and critical infrastructure. Over 800 participants and speakers are anticipated.

“This regional platform connects the region’s governments, business community, academia, and international partners to accelerate digital transformation in the region. The Summit will host ministers from Montenegro and Albania, senior officials from Serbia, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives from the European Commission, the RCC, ITU, the regional business community, and other international organizations. Key speakers expected include Renate Nicolay (DG CONNECT), RCC Secretary-General Amer Kapetanović, ITU Deputy Secretary-General Tomas Lamanauskas, a video message from Thomas Jarzombek (Parliamentary State Secretary of Germany), and private sector representatives Sviatoslav Senyuta (VISA), Mark Vasic (Deutsche Telekom), and Kate Marsh (British Council),” Andonovski said at the press conference.

According to him, the Summit is of exceptional importance because it will continue efforts to further reduce WB6–EU roaming costs, paving the way for “Roam Like at Home” and zero internet charges for Macedonian citizens and those from the Western Balkans in the EU.
