Watchdog publishes names of public office holders fined for violating anticorruption law

Skopje, 26 February 2025 (MIA) — The State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption has published the names of former and current public office holders who have been fined for violating the Law on Prevention of Corruption and Conflict of Interest.

The anticorruption watchdog said it was releasing this information in accordance with Article 98 of the Law on the Prevention of Corruption and Conflict of Interest.

This is the first time, however, that this information has been made public since the law has been adopted and put into effect ("Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No. 12/2019"), the watchdog said.

In addition to the public office holders' names, the list includes their misdemeanors and their fines, currently ranging between EUR 200 and 500.

According to the anticorruption commission, releasing the names of public office holders fined for violating anticorruption legislation will be a regular practice going forward.

The information would be publicly available for two years after its publication, the watchdog said.

It noted that releasing this information was important for encouraging people and institutions to respect the law and for increasing the transparency and accountability of institutions in the fight against corruption. mr/
