Skopje, 3 February 2025 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE, 'Worth It' and ZNAM parliamentary groups submitted a request to the Parliament on Monday over holding a public debate aimed at analysing and resolving the need to amend legal regulations towards increasing road traffic safety, VMRO-DPMNE's whip in Parliament Nikola Micevski posted on Facebook.
"We expect support from all MPs in order to overcome the systemic problems we have been facing in recent years," reads the Facebook post of MP and member of the VMRO-DPMNE Executive Committee, Nikola Micevski, as cited by the party.
The request, submitted to the Parliamentary Committee on Political System and Inter-Ethnic Relations, is signed by MPs Nikola Micevski (VMRO-DPMNE), Boban Karapejovski (ZNAM) and Merita Kolçi-Koxhaxhiku ('Worth It').
VMRO-DPMNE MP Bojan Stojanoski said last week that a public discussion will likely be held in the Parliament on Friday to look into possibilities for legal changes towards tightening traffic law enforcement.
Asked to comment on the case of Frosina Kulakova, a young woman killed by a drunk driver while crossing a street in downtown Skopje, and protests that followed demanding justice for Frosina and all other victims of traffic accidents, Stojanoski told Sitel TV that the parliamentary group has held talks with Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski, adding that he believes a public discussion should look into ways to intervene in the laws to prevent different interpretations in terms of traffic sanctions and prevent such cases from happening again.
