Skopje, 26 September 2024 (MIA) – The question and the dilemma is how SDSM, DUI’s partner, which had promoted a civil concept for eight years, put forward a veterans’ bill overnight. Were they sincere when they promoted the civil concept or have they become nationalists overnight proposing such legislation?, wondered First Deputy Prime Minister and Environment Minister Izet Mexhiti.

Asked by reporters about the veterans’ bill, put forward by SDSM MP and former defense minister Slavjanka Petrovska, Mexhiti said SDSM “doesn’t care about the veterans or the National Liberation Army (NLA), they only want to save themselves from accountability.”

There’s no room for concern, he said, because the bill won’t pass.

“The current government has the most stable majority of 78 MPs since 1990. It has democratic and political capacity to solve problems within the coalition,” he said at Thursday’s news conference announcing strengthened controls of air quality. 

Asked for a comment after Albania was greenlit to open the first clusters of its accession negotiations with European Union, decoupling it from North Macedonia on the EU path, the First Deputy PM said the government remains committed to the EU integration process.

“We should wait for an official information first. The government and Worth It coalition remain committed to this issue, one of the top priorities of our policies. I hope we will find a solution soon,” Mexhiti stated.
