Varvitsiotis: EU to be consistent and credible with Western Balkans
Athens, 22 September 2021 (MIA) - The European Union must be consistent and credible with the Western Balkans and Greece is prepared to take on a constructive role in the region’s integration process, Greek Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis told European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi, MIA reports from Athens.
Varvitsiotis reiterated Greece’s support for the EU enlargement with the regional states, briefing Commissioner Varhelyi on last week’s initiative in Thessaloniki, when the Western Balkans was involved in the dialogue on the future of Europe.
Varvitsiotis’ Office said Varhelyi expressed satisfaction from the Greek initiative and welcomed the country’s active role in the promotion of the European idea on the Balkans.
“I stressed to the Commissioner today that Greece firmly supports the EU perspective of the Western Balkans. The EU must be consistent and credible with them. We will continue to promote the European idea to our neighbors, because the EU is stronger when it is integrated,” tweeted Vavritsiotis.
In response, Varhelyi thanked Vavritsiotis for the good discussion and added, “We continue to work together on our priorities.”
