Brussels, 22 June 2022 (MIA) – European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi has welcomed the decision of Boyko Borissov, former Bulgarian PM and leader of opposition party GERB, that he would support the ‘French proposal’ aimed at unblocking North Macedonia’s Euro-integration process.
“We thank leader of opposition Gerb, Boyko Borissov, for making a historical decision for Europe and North Macedonia to accept negotiation based on the French proposal allowing to proceed with the opening of accession negotiations with North Macedonia. We expect (the Bulgarian) government making necessary proposals to Parliament today so Europe can move forward,” tweeted Varhelyi.
Earlier in the day, Borissov said Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov should formally submit the French proposal to unblock North Macedonia’s EU integration process to Bulgaria’s Parliament, stressing that all of his party’s 59 Members of Parliament would vote for it.
