Sofia, 9 June 2022 (MIA) – Bulgaria has three clear demands in the North Macedonia issue: observance of the framework position adopted by the Bulgarian Parliament, incorporation of Bulgarians in the Constitution of North Macedonia in order to protect their rights, and implementation of the Friendship Treaty, said Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov after Thursday’s meeting with European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi.
“Clear and simple. This was in the focus of the talks with the EU Commissioner, before and now,” said PM Petkov, BGNES reports.
Varhelyi said there is still no solution to the dispute, adding “this is very frustrating for the EU because the accession process cannot resume.”
“I am still waiting for Bulgaria’s support and this is what we have been working on throughout these discussions in Sofia and Skopje, so that North Macedonia’s European perspective is finally cleared and enhanced. We would like to see an agreement reached in June and that is why I am meeting with the PM and the foreign minister this morning, followed by a meeting with the President,” said Varhelyi.
