US Ambassador hopes no political party and no individual would work to destabilize their own country

Skopje, 10 December 2024 (MIA) - It is very much my hope that no political party and no individual would work to destabilize their own country. I don't see that as being in anyone's best interest and particularly in the interest of the citizens, said United States Ambassador Angela Aggeler on Tuesday.

Asked by reporters if she talked to Government officials about a possible destabilization of the country, Ambassador Aggeler said she is speaking to officials on a daily basis as part of the job.

"That is why I have photos with former officials, because this is my job. Specifically, about the country's stability, I don't recall such a conversation, but I did speak to the Prime Minister last night right after the designations came out because I forwarded the announcement to him, and I spoke with him today. It is very much my hope that no political party and no individual would work to destabilize their own country. I don't see that as being in anyone's best interest and particularly in the interest of the citizens," said Aggeler.

Whether within the ruling coalition or the opposition, she added, the role of any leader, elected or not, should be to help pursue a stable, secure and prosperous North Macedonia.

"That's what the people want. They don't want to have destabilizing efforts," said Aggeler and added that citizens want to see action against corrupt actors in the country.
