UNESCO adds beech forest within Mavrovo National Park to World Heritage List
Skopje, 29 July 2021 (MIA) – UNESCO has added the Dlaboka Reka Beech Forest within Mavrovo National Park to its list of World Heritage Sites, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning said in a press release on Thursday.
The forest, located on Mount Korab, the press release read, was recognized by UNESCO as part of the extension of the transnational World Heritage site of Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe.
The decision was made during Wednesday’s extended 44th session of the World Heritage Committee, chaired by Fuzhou (China).
The nomination was submitted by the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning and the Mavrovo National Park and prepared with the assistance of the Institute of Ecology from Klagenfurt in Austria and national experts.
