Turnout by 9 am: 4.45% for parliamentary elections, 4.17% for presidential elections

Skopje, 8 May 2024 (MIA) – Turnout in the second round of the presidential elections by 9 am is 4.17%, according to data submitted from 1,009 polling stations after 22,797 people voted. Also, turnout for the parliamentary elections is 4.45%, show data from 1,033 polling stations where 25,132 people voted.

In the presidential elections, the highest turnout so far was recorded in Probishtip, 8.85%, and the lowest in Bogovinje, 0.57%. In the parliamentary elections, Krivogashtani recorded the highest turnout, 9.46%, and Bogovinje recorded the lowest, 1.43%, said State Election Commission President Aleksandar Dashtevski.

Speaking at Wednesday’s first press conference of the Election Commission, Dashtevski said that all polling stations were open and technical issues had been recorded at several, which were being settled by the commission.

“Compared to the runoff of the 2019 presidential elections, turnout dropped by 1.99%. There is also a decrease compared to the 2020 parliamentary elections of 0.74%,” he said.

Asked whether the presidential elections were possibly being boycotted, Dashtevski said there was “absolutely no boycott”.

“Turnout is the same for both elections. People going to polling stations voted in both elections, the percentage is the same,” he stated.
