Skopje, 29 June 2022 (MIA) – Comparative experiences have shown that the vetting has not proved to be the best tool to filter the judiciary, said Justice Minister Nikola Tupancheski told a Q&A session in Parliament on Wednesday. Minister Tupancheski referred to the example of Albania, where the vetting procedure was “a fiasco” because the way it was implemented did not produce the expected results or the desired objective was not achieved. “A selection of good and poor judges can be done through the institutions and within the existing laws and bylaws. In this regard we adopted a methodology that has incorporated precise criteria over the election and dismissal of judges and prosecutors,”, said Tupancheski. According to him, the Council of Public Prosecutors and the Judicial Council have shown what vetting means in a figurative sense in recent months and over the past year, with many judges being dismissed whereas the way in which new judges and prosecutors are election is based on the new methodology. “The vetting cannot be done through a vetting law. On the contrary, I believe that vetting can be done through the existing laws and bylaws. The most important aspect is the serious will for delivery of results,” underlined Tupancheski.
