Washington, 19 August 2025 (dpa/MIA) - US President Donald Trump said he has spoken on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin and started setting up a meeting between him and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"I called President Putin, and began the arrangements for a meeting, at a location to be determined, between President Putin and President Zelenskyy," Trump said in a post on Truth Social following a meeting in the White House with Zelensky and European leaders.

"After that meeting takes place, we will have a Trilat, which would be the two Presidents, plus myself," Trump continued, saying this was "a very good, early step for a War that has been going on for almost four years."

Trump said that US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff were "coordinating with Russia and Ukraine."
