Trial over Kochani nightclub fire begins Wednesday

Skopje, 18 November 2025 (MIA) - The trial over the deadly fire at the "Pulse" nightclub in Kochani, which claimed the lives of 63 people and left around 200 injured, will begin on Wednesday. The first hearing is scheduled to be held at 9:30 AM under heightened security measures and in the presence of a medical team.

The case involves 38 defendants – 35 people and three legal entities. The trial will proceed at a pace of two hearings per week.

At a media briefing earlier in the month, judicial authorities called on the media to report about the proceedings in a dignified manner, avoiding sensationalism and showing respect for the victims and their families.

Judge Diana Gruevska Ilievska will preside over court proceedings, while a team of 15 public prosecutors will represent the prosecution in order to ensure an efficient and fair trial.

Among the defendants, charged with grave crimes against general safety, are venue owners, managers, inspectors, mayors, security personnel, and government officials.
