Trendafilov: Unions expect salaries to rise, departisation of public sector

Skopje, 31 July 2024 (MIA) – Public sector salaries will rise by 15 percent annually in the next four years and the new government should provide funds in the budget, without excuses. We expect the capacities to strengthen, the misuse of public sector employees to stop and party members to no longer be employed. They have our support for this, Slobodan Trendafilov, President of the Association of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM) said Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters before the panel titled “All Together for Professional and Quality Public Administration”, Trendafilov said he expected the ministers at the event to confirm the salaries will be aligned as of September and they will increase next year according to the collective agreement for the public sector.

“We are here, at the event, to hear the ministers saying salaries will increase, because without money there are no jobs in the country,” Trendafilov stressed,

The union, he said, will give support, but if this is not enforced, we’re prepared to take other measures.

“We, the workers, are tired from listening to their excuses. We expect them today to say the capacities will be strengthened, the misuse of public sector employees will stop, the parties will no longer interfere in the public sector. They will have our support only if they fulfil these promises, otherwise, the trade unions are prepared to make some unpopular steps,” added Trendafilov.
