Trenchevska: North Macedonia an example in region regarding fight against human trafficking

Skopje, 16 June 2023 (MIA) - Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jovanka Trenchevska met Friday with newly elected Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope, who is the first woman to lead the IOM.
The IOM is the leading international organization in the area of migration and is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy said in a press release.
Talks focused on areas of cooperation between the Ministry and the IOM, particularly internal and external migration, human trafficking and gender equality, adds the press release.
"Interlocutors also opened the topic of the labor force in the labor market in the country, as well as how cooperation can be achieved to direct regular migrants to join the labor market," the press release reads.
According to Pope, such direction of migrants by adjusting the legal regulations can satisfy the needs of the demand of the labor market, while respecting the basic human and labor rights.
Pope also commented on the issue of gender equality, noting that Minister Trenchevska was a champion in the region in the fight for gender equality," reads the press release.
