Transport Ministry to revoke company’s work permit following deadly bus accident
Skopje, 23 November 2021 (MIA) – The Transport Ministry has launched a procedure to revoke the work permit of the company Besa Trans after its bus caught fire on a highway in Bulgaria early Tuesday, killing 46 passengers, because initial findings have revealed that the company performed international transportation without having license for the bus in question, Transport Minister Blagoj Bochvarski told a news conference on Tuesday evening.
“The burned vehicle wasn’t reported by the transportation company according to the law and as a result, the vehicle couldn’t be found in the Transport Ministry’s e-database,” he said.
Offering condolences over the deadly bus accident, Bochvarski said that the Transport Ministry in cooperation with other state institutions and Bulgarian authorities is making utmost efforts to determine the cause of the accident.
The government at today’s session tasked the State Transport Inspectorate to conduct an emergency inspection in the company Besa Trans.
Minister Bochvarski said the company had been issued license for international transportation of passengers and had documents proving its vehicles were in line with the standards Euro 3 and Euro 4. The license, issued in August 2018, is valid until August 2022.
Also, the company had registered four vehicles with transportation licenses.
“After receiving information from the Interior Ministry about the burned vehicle, it was concluded that the bus wasn’t reported by the company in line with the law, which is why it cannot be found in the Transport Ministry’s e-database,” he told the news conference.
The Transport Ministry under the law can revoke a company’s work permit if a vehicle hasn’t been registered.
The Ministry is in charge of issuing licenses for international transportation of passengers as well as licenses for each vehicle individually.
