Skopje, 31 July 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski met Wednesday with Kosovo counterpart Xhelal Sveçla, discussing cooperation between the two countries. The goal is to facilitate border crossing for citizens and successful cooperation in the fight against organized crime, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.
Minister Toshkovski expressed hope that cooperation will improve in the future and focus on ensuring a safer region.
"We concluded that our citizens, especially during the busy summer period, use the border crossings way more frequently, and as responsible politicians we must simplify access on the borders between Macedonia and Kosovo. And at the same time reach a necessary compromise with appropriate security checks, which should be carried out, all in order for our citizens to be able to use the border crossings as quickly as possible," Toshkovski said.
Interlocutors agreed that in the coming period focus should be put on the fight against transnational and organized crime.
"When it comes to inter-police work, politics should have no influence, on a professional level, we should respond to all challenges quickly and efficiently. Cooperation thus will strengthen, including the existing good relations, with the aim of achieving even greater results," Toshkovski stressed.
The two ministers also discussed implementation of training, support in simulated exercises which should improve the professional capacity of employees within the ministries.
Minister Sveçla said stated that both sides agreed that there is potential for greater cooperation.
"Both sides agreed that there is potential and space for greater cooperation. Especially in the fight against organized crime, terrorism, and human trafficking. But, our cooperation will also be for the good of the citizens of both countries. Like the Minister said, our goal is to make it easier for our citizens to cross our borders. In addition, we want success in the fight against organized crime," Sveçla added.ssh/ad/
