Toshkovski: Security situation is stable

Skopje, 5 April 2024 (MIA) — The country's security situation ahead of the upcoming elections is stable, caretaker Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski told reporters after his visit to the Skopje Police Department on Friday.

Minister Toshkovski also urged all young voters who did not have an ID to apply for one as soon as possible so it could be issued "in a reasonable time" for them to be able to exercise their voting rights.

He said the procedure could be completed in one day given that there were only around 500 voters who had just turned 18 and did not have IDs.

Asked how quickly the new name passports were being issued, he said the urgent procedure took five to seven days and the regular procedure took two months.

"Let's not fool ourselves, these are our capacities," Toshkovski said.

He added that the Skopje Police Department had informed him that the security situation in the capital as well as in the rest of the country was stable. mr/
