Skopje, 7 May 2025 (MIA) - On the occasion of May 7 – Macedonian Police Day, Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski extended greetings to all police officers across the country, underscoring their key role in ensuring public safety. He also honoured all members of the Ministry of Interior who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.

"This day is dedicated to you, to all police officers across Macedonia, the people who are professionally committed to ensuring the safety of citizens every day," said the Minister, pointing out that being a police officer is not just wearing a uniform, but commitment to protecting the homeland.

Addressing Wednesday's ceremony at the Interior Ministry’s Training Centre in Skopje’s Idrizovo, Toshkovski highlighted the complexity of the modern security context and the challenges facing the police.

"The modern security context is complex. We face great challenges and our role today is more responsible than ever," he noted, adding that the Interior Ministry actively cooperates with numerous European and regional partners.

The Minister also mentioned the results of the police work in the past period, pointing out that a significant reduction in crime has been achieved.

"We showed that we can - we cracked down on 14 criminal groups, most of which related to drug trafficking. We uncovered two organized groups related to high corruption," said Toshkovski.

He stressed that the Ministry of Interior is no longer a closed institution, but "works shoulder to shoulder with the citizens".

"Security is not a privilege, it is the foundation of every healthy society. Without it, there is no economy, no justice, no development," the Minister pointed out, adding that the Macedonian police will continue to change, grow and improve, remaining a symbol of order and justice.

Macedonian Police Day is observed on May 7. The day is dedicated to recognizing the work and commitment of police officers in North Macedonia. This year, the central event celebrating Macedonian Police Day is held at the Interior Ministry’s Training Centre in Skopje’s Idrizovo, in the attendance of top state officials.
